After toying with the idea of a circuit right around the garden, I settled on an out and back with a return loop since this would be easier to live with. It will be double track all the way and incorporate a double junction for the return loop.
The railway will approach the house on a long viaduct inspired by Ribblehead Viaduct on the Settle & Carlisle Railway and enter through a cat-flap disguised as a tunnel mouth on the outside and as a road overbridge on the inside.
There is only one station on this railway, located inside where all my rolling stock can be safely stored between running sessions. Inspired by St Pancras which, in its original form, had several stabling roads within the trainshed, plus the old Somers Town Goods Yard next door.
