Stanford Hall 2009

The Leicestershire & Warwickshire VW Owners Club has held their gathering at Stanford Hall on the Sunday of the May Bank Holiday every year since 1976. Stanford Hall has been the home of the Cave family since 1430. The present Hall was built in the 1690s and is one of the most exquisite examples of the architecture of the period.

Stanford Hall

We were favoured with a wonderful sunny day with cotton-wool clouds in a blue sky. This year, I was invited to show my Beetle in the Historical Volkswagen Club area in front of the Hall. Pride of place is given to those vehicles built before August 1957 (splits and ovals).

Wartime rarities

Amongst these historic vehicles were a Kübelwagen and a Schwimmwagen in wonderful condition.

More historic Beetles

The rest of the club’s membership was arrayed around the edge of the lawn facing the Hall.

A brace of Type 4s

The Type 3 & 4 Club was also represented, there were only two 412s on the club stand this year, well outnumbered by a variety of Type 3s. I hope to have my own 412 fit and ready to join this line up before the year is out!
