The Tramway Village people at Crich in Derbyshire hold a number of special themed events during the year and their Beetle Drive has become a firm favourite in the calendar. The 2009 event was held on 6th September. Here are a few pictures I took of the event.
Cars were parked up around the village, these were on the fan in front of the tram sheds. It is supposed to be a Beetle Drive but that seems to have been interpreted quite liberally. There were even a couple of Golfs joining in!
An early Beetle in wonderful condition.
A feature of the day is The Drive when we all get to parade up and down the main street to show off to the crowds. This year trams continued to run and we created a bit of a bug-jam as we queued to turn round at each end of the run. This queue is at the back of the visitors’ car park.
The VW Owners Club GB was in evidence with a good turnout around the bandstand ...
... with more wonderful cars.
I had to wait for this tram to clear the narrow Bowes-Lyon bridge on the way home.
As in previous years, each participant received a small brass plaque to commemorate the occasion.
